Breast Uplift

This surgery is also known as a Mastopexy and is used to correct issues in women who have noticed drooping of their breasts, which is most common after weight loss or breastfeeding. A Mastopexy is often combined with breast implant surgery for further enhancement of the breast shape and firmness. Your surgeon will be able to advise you on which type of mastopexy would be best suited to help you achieve your desired outcome.

Surgical Options

The surgical technique used for your breast uplift will depend on what type of breasts you have to start with, i.e. “droopy”, “saggy” or “flat”. Your consultant will examine you and after this will discuss with you the type of uplift that will allow you to achieve the result that you are looking for. In many cases, the optimum result is achieved by performing a combined procedure known as an Augment Mastopexy, where implants are used to improve the volume and shape of the new breast. Again your consultant will discuss this option with you if it is appropriate.

The Operation
In the case of relatively small uplift procedures, these may be offered as a day case procedure under local anaesthetic with sedation. However, in the majority of cases, larger uplifts and those which are mastopexy augmentations will require a general anaesthetic and a one-night hospital stay. During the procedure, a section of skin and tissue will be removed from the underside of each breast and then stitched close leaving the scars in the fold of skin underneath the breast. In many cases the nipples will also have to be relocated as the shape of the breast will be altered during the surgery
