Frequently Asked Questions
It is important that any patient going for any type of cosmetic surgery does some research on their surgeon, the clinic where the surgeon works and what procedures may be available to address their problems. Below is a list of questions that you should think about asking your surgeon.
Who are the best candidates for breast enlargement surgery?
The main categories of women who breast enlargement surgery would benefit are those who want to enlarge, uplift or reshape their breasts:
- Women who’s breasts do not develop adequately
- After having Children
- After having lost a reasonable amount of weight
- Who are generally unhappy with the way their breasts look
- Who have self-esteem issues because of their breasts
- Who have uneven or misshapen breasts, or a congenital deformity of the breast.
What size can I or should I increase my breasts to?
The size and shape of your breasts is a very personal choice however your consultant will discuss with you the typical cup size you would like to achieve from your breast enlargement. At Augment Me we have invested in a Vectra 3D imaging system, which will show you a simulation of what your breasts will look like after surgery. This will help in the selection in the style and size of implants for those having breast augmentation.
What does breast enlargement surgery involve?
At Augment Me our highly skilled and trained surgeons can carry out most breast enlargement procedures either under general anaesthetic or sedation. This lets patients have surgery done as a day case allowing them to return home a few hours after their surgery.
There are several methods / techniques for carrying out surgery and your consultant will discuss which method would be most effective in helping you achieve your desired results.
What should I know before I decide to go ahead with breast enlargement surgery?
Before undertaking any surgical procedure it is important to select a consultant who has expertise and experience in the procedure you wish to undergo, in this case breast enlargement surgery. Our consultants will meet with you at your initial consultation and take time to understand what you want to achieve from your surgery and we will explain what improvements can realistically be achieved. This discussion will take into account your age, skin texture and the existing size, shape and position of your breasts. The consultant will cover issues such as the type of implants that would best suit your needs and whether or not your nipples would have to be prepositioned as part of the procedure.
What are the risks associated with breast enlargement surgery?
Breast enlargement surgery is the most common cosmetic surgery procedure carried out in the UK today and complications are rare. However with any surgical procedure there are risks and these will be discussed with you in detail at your consultation. At Augment Me we prefer to use only implants which are FDA approved, as these have undergone rigorous quality approvals which helps minimise the risk of capsular contracture (or encapsulation), which although a risk is extremely low.
After Surgery how will my breasts look and feel?
During the first couple weeks after surgery your breasts will feel swollen, but pert and firm. Once the breasts have settled and the swelling reduces, they will revert to a more natural appearance and feel.
Is the surgery painful and how long will this last?
In most cases patients experience some soreness (rather than sharp and sustained pain) following surgery and you will be given pain relief for as long as required after your procedure. As mentioned above as the surgical swelling goes down the tenderness will gradually disappear.
How long is the expected recovery period?
This is very much patient and procedure dependent, however we would typically advise patients to take one to two weeks off of work. Depending on the nature of your work you may be advised to take more time off or switch to light duties. You will need to refrain from heavy lifting and the gym for 6 weeks.
What happens the week after my surgery?
You will be sore for a few days but this reduces a lot over the first 24 hours and then normally returns to normal by the end of the week. At Elanic we like to use waterproof dressings and allow patients to shower normally. The first week after your surgery you tend to be swollen so we will advise you to wear a bra bigger than your eventual size to be comfortable. At the end of the first week you can get fitted for a better fitting bra. This bra should be non-underwired, such as a sports bra and worn constantly day and night for 6 weeks, just taken off to shower.
What can I expect as an Aftercare and Support package?
The post-operative support and aftercare is key for our patients as it is comforting to know that a nurse or doctor is at the end of the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. We have a patient care plan that requires you to come back to see us for post op wound care and regular medical follow-up reviews with your consultant or the nursing staff.
How much does breast enlargement surgery cost?
At Augment Me we offer a surgeon consultation and our prices for breast enlargement surgery start from £4995, using Mentor, FDA approved round implants.
